hey quilty!

May 28, 2014

Last month I got an email from Mary Fons, the editor and creator of Quilty Magazine. She asked me to submit some designs for use in an upcoming issue, and turns out they didn’t just want one quilt – they wanted two!

My debut is happening in the Sept/Oct issue and I couldn’t be more excited. My “Airborne” quilt will be featured then, and my “Mountainscape” quilt will be in the Jan/Feb 2015 issue.

I can remember looking through Fons & Porter Love of Quilting magazines during my teenage years and wishing that I was talented enough to have one of my quilts featured. Now, years later, my dream is coming true!

purple grey and lime quilt

My sister-in-law graduated from college almost a year ago, and I promised her a new quilt as a gift. She just moved into an adorable house and has been decorating up a storm. She chose the colors to match her room – grey, plum, white, and a hint of lime. I loved the color combo and she loved the end result!

quilt week 2014

April 28, 2014

Every year since I finished college, I’ve made the trip down to Western Kentucky for the AQS show in Paducah. I stay with my friend Jenna in Murray (about 45 minutes away) so I get to visit with her AND spend all week looking at quilts and buying fabric. It really doesn’t get much better than that.

This year I spent more time looking at the show quilts. In years past I spent more time shopping for cool new fabric for my stash, but this year I felt particularly inspired by the quilt show itself. I took time to study the award-winning craftsmanship and felt compelled to start working on show quilts myself. Maybe next year!

school art quilt

I love kid art. Each year the art teacher at a school in Tennessee asks me to make a quilt for their auction, and this year’s student work was stellar.

Thanks second-graders!  Can’t wait to see what next year’s class comes up with!
